Joe Martino
Growing up in a suburb of Toronto I was that kid interested in being creative in the garage, building things related to whatever hobby I was into at the time. When it came to sports I loved playing literally anything the neighborhood kids were playing. Whether it was street hockey, backyard baseball or silly games we made up combining anywhere from 1 to 147 different sports, I was there playing it. My greatest passion for sports came through baseball. It was something I grew up with and played competitively. I, like many other kids, always dreamed of playing in The Show (MLB) one day. I knew I could do what anyone else could do on a ball field so I thought maybe one day it would happen. It didn’t. Apparently my life’s path had other plans.
I grew up Catholic and attended Catholic schools. I always had some challenges fitting into the structure, as it didn’t fully resonate with me. After high school I went on to college studying mechanical engineering because I was that kid in the garage making various thing with my hands. But regardless of what I thought I was interested in, I didn’t fit into college either. I felt as though what I was learning, how it was all structured and the purpose of it was something I would have liked to experience in a different way. I ended up trying 3 different programs in college before officially leaving. During the time I was out of school, I worked in various office jobs related to business, IT and finance. These were all great experiences for me as I got to see what the working world was like first hand. Looking at how people operated in their jobs and why they were there was a great eye opener for what a career can look like. These experiences led me to really question what it was that I was doing.
All of my life I was inspired to change the world. It seemed like such a tall order given how big the world is, and how so many had tried in the past, but growing up I had regular visions of a future where mass scale change occurred and I knew I could be part of it. I didn’t fully resonate with the world the way it was, and I didn’t want to see it continue in this manner. So I decided to devote my time to assist in changing it. In 2009, a couple friends and myself decided to create Collective Evolution, as it was clear this was what we needed to do. It was at this time that a period of accelerated growth began for me and I was becoming more and more in tune with who I was by the day. This was the first time I really began to feel peace within my life. Since 2009, CE has been a full time gig for me as writing for the site, assisting others and creating documentaries are what appeal to me most in life at this time.
My drive and passion behind CE and The SHIFT Project comes from a connectedness I feel to all of humanity and a way of seeing things that allows me to realize we can experience a completely different world. It is my intention to play a role opening others up to seeing a world without borders, boundaries or limitation. A world where we can all share our true calling and expand ourselves as a whole.
