Neuroplasticity: Brain and Heart Interaction

Modern science is progressing in its ability to understand the human brain and the way it functions in relation to the human being. Prior to Neuroplasticity, science assumed that the brain is the primary operating organ that determines everything about human behavior and action. Our brain is one of the most complex biological structures known to man, but science assumes that the brain drives thought, behavior, perception, emotion, disease and health. New discoveries within the  field of neuroscience are starting to illustrate how the brain  is taking instruction from something else. Neuroplasticity is the idea that the brain is adaptable and changeable. It’s now being used to treat learning disabilities, brain damage, chronic pain and more.

“The idea that the brain is plastic in the sense of changeable, adaptable and malleable. Is the single most important change in our understanding of the human brain in four hundred years. Neuroplasticity is that property of the brain that allows it to change it’s structure and it’s function, it’s a response to sensing and perceiving the world, even to thinking and imagining. Human thoughts and learning actually turn on certain genes in our nerve cells which allow those cells to make new connections between them” – Dr. Norman Doidge

Our brain shapes and reshapes itself given how we perceive the environment around us. This is also seen in Phenotypic plasticity, which is the ability of an organism to change it’s observable traits such as morphology, development, biochemical or physiological properties, as well as behavior. All of these things also result from the expression of an organisms genetic structure.   Most human beings have a very similar perception of the world, someone who perceives the world completely differently will have a different brain with different neurological connections and gene activation. If our brain shapes itself according to our thoughts and perception of the environment around us, then who is thinking the thoughts that cause our brain to react? Who is you? With so much information concealed from the human race, with so much information available that could change our perception of the planet concealed from us, what type of gene activation within our nerve cells lay dormant? Who you think you are is not actually you, because who you think you are can always change. The real you, the soul that lies within does not change, who you think you are might.

Our current perception of reality is one that includes consumerism and materialism. It is one of being born, going to school, working to make money, retire and more. We all have a collective perception of how the world is, we all have a similar idea of what the world is like and we all think that we have to follow the same path. Human beings are rapidly waking up to truth, in doing so we change our perception of how things are. Changing our thoughts alone, coupled with our changing perception is activating genes within our nerve cells giving rise to something new. Truth is, that things are not how they seem here on planet earth. The veil that’s been blinding the masses is being lifted, and according to neuroplasticity, a change in perception leads to gene activation.

What we should take away from plasticity is that we have the ability to change our brains, that thoughts and perception are directly responsible to how the brain functions. We should ask ourselves what influences our perception and what possibilities are available to us when we spark gene activation resulting from a paradigm change? We should also ask ourselves, where do our thoughts, feelings and emotions stem from that are responsible for triggering changes within our brain. We should ask ourselves where do our thoughts come from? Are they even our own? After all, consciousness creates reality Quantum double slit experiment

  1. As with any Journalist, it kind of is a duty to provide sources for the information you claim. If you came across articles and research from RELIABLE sources to be able to write this article, than you should be able to provide the sources. ONE, not everyone has time to spend searching for sources as they can be difficult to find, which is why relying on responsible journalists who provide sources or links to universities and scientific journals. Two telling people to research themselves is fine, but not providing sources for your articles is not responsible journalism, only because to many people DONT do research, so you could be potentially generating a whole plethora of misinformed people.

    • skepticism will hider growth. you can take my word for it or waste a few years and find out for yourself. the quantum double slit experiment is all over the internet. just google it and if that does not do it for you than nothing will. I can lead a horse to water but if its not thirsty it just won’t drink.

  2. Hi:) I have provided a few sources at the bottom of the article now.

why dont you open your eyes before you start complaining. it would probably really really help you in life

    • Saira

Clearly as his response stated (maybe you should learn to look and read) he added the sources AFTER I made a valid point. What is the point of your comment other than to be rude? And I dont care what you think there are to many people who don’t practise responsible journalism, and it is a MAJOR issue.

      • Matt

        I agree

      • Do you know, I really hate it when members of the cult of sciencism invade a thread that presents new ideas and try to undermine the writer. I’m not a child, I can make up my own mind.

If I were looking to study the questions; “…who is thinking the thoughts that cause our brain to react? Who is you?” What specific field would I be Looking in to?

    • Arjun

Not too sure lily, maybe metaphysics or some branch within Philosophy..consciousness or something. :)

      • Buddhism answers these questions, but there are many different forms of Buddhism. Some of those are more helpful than others.

    • Jamie

I found this 10 day course a good starting point for understanding the nature of the self through Buddhism (Tibetan). It won’t give you the answers but will lead you to the right questions.. http://www.tushita.info/program/intro-to-buddhism

      • that is like trying to see yourself by looking outwards…..won’t happen

        • hey Steve, totally agree (based on my experience) the illusion is that the answers are outside of us…

    • Yourself… your own heart…. Be the silent observer of your own mind thinking.
It’s not an external “field” everything you need is within.

    • Check Quantum Physics. Yes this experiment does play periodically on cable channels…Discovery, I believe.

    • Amanda

Quantum Physics has some pretty good science if you look into the perspective of being the “Observer”. REALLY neat stuff.

    • Lily, it’s not so much who as what. You could try researching the Morphic Fields theory proposed by biologist Rupert Sheldrake or the theories of Teilhard de Chardin

None of this offers definitive proof of course, but using Socratic methods I have proved to the more pedantic science fans who challenge me that (a) just because the existence of God cannot be proved, this does not prove god does not exist (b) there is no more real evidence for Big Bang than for the creation myths of ancient religions (c) gravity contravenes the laws of physics and therefor cannot exist.

For the record I’m not religious but neither am I a militant atheist. In my view the answer to “life, the universe and everything” as Hitch Hiker’s Guide To The Galaxy puts it, is we haven’t a clue. :-)

If the heart emits such electromagnetic fields then why are we not able to analyze such fields and decode the signals its sending like we do with communication in mobiles??

    • Hi supreeth, the hearts electromagnetic field (can be measured and ‘seen’) contains specific information and coding. This is known, as far as decoding the signals, they are still trying to be understood. But it is known that feelings and emotions play a vital part. You can do more research if you want, a good place to start is the institute of heart math, you can google them. Thanks for reading:)

    • To a degree, we can see what the heart is doing. Now, there are machines, for example, that work with the heart to regulate the rate and rhythm of the beat. That would be the Pacemaker. Then, if it malfunctions, or needs re-setting, a magnetic device is simply held over the skin containing the Pacemaker, and a screen will produce a waveform, reflecting the hearts activity, and the changes are made according to the communication of the magnetic “reader/setter” & the screen that comes with it.

  7. This is a fascinating and important area of exploration which I want to follow further but it seems a bit muddled.Who we think we are is questioned and explored briefly but then the article talks about the “real you” and the “soul” as if they were established facts. That is bizarre!

Buddhism addresses questions like ‘who we think we are’ but does not share the common concept of a ‘soul.’ Researching where thoughts come from seems interesting, especially if it can be proved that the brain isn’t necessarily where they originate, but for me as a Buddhist it doesn’t really matter, since in meditation I just let them go.

  10. Lisa, I’d love some information on how to start meditation, and what one hopes to gain from it. How is meditation different from quiet solitary contemplation.

Saira, citing sources is useful, but manipulation is possible on so many levels. If you want answers, you have to do your own research and form your own thoughts. Although you will find so many of us happy to help.

      Hi Lebowskier,

Heart Rhythm Meditation is a centering meditation where you synchronize your breathing with your heartbeat. There are 4 dimensions of the heart. Each has a different quality and depending on what your need is you work on a particular dimension. For more info you can check out http://www.iamheart.org
I am a professional musician and have been doing HRM for 5 years. It has changed the way I perform and the way i practice. i have no more performance anxiety. I am more confident in my dealings with fellow musicians and more secure in my relationships. There is wisdo in the heart and HRM helps you to access that. Peace, Cornelia

    • There is a free course in meditation on my sangha’s website: arobuddhism.org

    • meditation is the absence of contemplation. it is the act of letting go of all mental chatter so as to reveal the bigger you that is listening while all the little you’s are quacking. it relieves stress , lowers blood pressure amongst a whole lott of other attributers

so they now call it brain training and neuro-plasticity!??? 10 months ago they called it psychosis!!! but explained it exactly the same and said my thinking was logical and correct when they did a scan? so the psych drugs prescribed…..block these newly built, or realized pathways so i was back in zombie land!

  12. Denial will get you nowhere. First acceptance so as to be able to recognize, acknowledgment without judgement and then letting go. simple words = release from conflicting inner agreements

Wrong, quantum mechanics double slit experiment’s hypothesis assumes light is a particle and electrons can be released one @ a time. This trend of people that believe they can physically alter reality with their mind is a product of BAD SCIENCE. Plasticity is NOT a natural “ingredient” to consciousness – if every neuron in the brain had to be connected the brain would be the size of a football field hence neuroplasticity is required.

“Sirius” is a feature length documentary that follows Dr. Steven Greer – an Emergency Medicine doctor turned UFO/ New Energy researcher – as he struggles to disclose top secret information about classified energy & propulsion techniques. Along the way, Dr. Greer investigates new technology and sheds light on criminal suppression. He accumulates over 100 Government, Military, and Intelligence Community witnesses who testify on record about their first-hand experiences with UFOs and with the cover-up.

In the course of his research Dr. Greer is asked to look at an amazing find: a humanoid specimen, 6 inches long from the Atacama Desert. Not until 2012 was he given permission to take bone samples and DNA from the specimen. At that same time a pre-eminent geneticist, hearing of this find, offered to do DNA testing. He enlisted an MD from the same university,- world renowned for his work with skeletal anomalies, to view the x-rays and CT scans. Their expertise along with Dr. Greer’s expansive knowledge of the subject bring more questions than answers. Where did this “Atacama Humanoid” come from? Are there others like it? What does it say about the origin of the human species?

While on this odyssey, the audience gains a whole new perspective on technology, human evolution, and clandestine organizations who have manipulated and controlled the public for centuries.
