Accepting Yourself

acceptanceI wonder how many people on the planet truly accept themselves. I am still on the path of accepting myself and for the most part I do. I have come a long way, and there are many aspects of me that I accept. At the soul level, I feel total acceptance, because at that level there is no judgment. Many of us do not even give ourselves the opportunity to listen to our inner voice, our intuition, our heart. We are so caught up in daily life, repeating the same things everyday that we hardly ever stop in silence for a moment to even listen to what our true self has to tell us.

If you are having trouble accepting yourself then you are living from the mind as well as throwing judgement at yourself. When we judge ourselves, it means we are having thoughts, and believing them. It’s quite remarkable how often human beings believe their thoughts without question. It is also quite remarkable how humans do not observe their thoughts, and take time to recognize that thoughts usually hold little to no truth. A lot of the time our thoughts are coming from a belief system. This belief system usually stems from a perception that the world has to be a certain way, and that human beings living within the system have to act, look, and be a certain way. You don’t have to be a certain way, there is no way to be, just be yourself. The challenges and experiences you can have when you are truly yourself will fly at you. From here, you can learn and grow from them while you move on or you can hang on to your belief systems until you learn to let go of them.

A good trick to try is ask yourself where your thoughts come from. How do each of us perceive reality? What type of beliefs and conclusions that stem from your  mind are you believing? Why are you believing them? Do we think that there is a certain way to be? Is there a certain way to act in certain situations? No, the key to this human experience is to just be yourself. If you are not yourself, you’ll probably experience many moments in your life that constantly provide you the opportunity to be true to yourself.

You cannot change the planet until you accept yourself. It is only from a place of self acceptance and self love that one can go out into the world and make any sort of significant change. The change you seek to make in the world starts with you, it starts with the type of energy and intent you have in your heart. From the proper energy and intent in your heart, you have the ability to manifest any type of reality you desire. Manifesting, creating and living your life from a place that is not at peace with itself is useless if you are trying to change the planet. At the same time it is not useless because no matter what your state of being, the universe will always provide the necessary experiences you need in order to grow whatever it is you need to grow. Wherever you are and whatever your situation, it’s always perfect at the level of absolute truth. Our minds tend to get in the way and make us forget what our soul has long known, each and every experience is an experience for growth. Just like we judge ourselves, we tend to just our experiences. The best thing to do is look at ourselves and our experiences from a place of neutrality, without judgement. From this place we can learn and grow from whatever we think it is ‘happened to us’. Eventually, you will come to the conclusion that nothing happens ‘to’ us, but only for us.

“Just experience and looking at things from a place of neutrality” is so correct! During my childhood in school, i used to get bored and so bored that i wanted to get out of the system. I wanted to hurry up to growing up (age) until time divine allowed me to experience Life according to my soul mission. phew! It has been a long journey, incredible long journey to witness that Life itself is actually a true school.

Amazing article! I love the part when you said, “Our minds tend to get in the way and make us forget what our soul has long known, each and every experience is an experience for growth”. This is so true, I shouldn’t worry about the future or the past but live in the now. If you think about the past or the future you’re just stuck in that bubble as suppose to actually living your life in the NOW.What ever events come in your life, is meant to come in order for us to grow. That is all there is, and to live in the now,

Thank you for writing this, it is a timely topic. I’m not sure I understand though if my conception of accepting myself is the same as yours. My belief is that accepting oneself is to see both the ‘good’ and ‘bad’ aspects of the self, and when taken as a whole, to love these aspects with an understanding of kind compassion born from the knowledge that one has arrived at this place of self due to the accumulation of all we experience from the day of birth. So, awakening to the self as a flawed and wondrous creation and accepting that fact, that awakening comes from a place of love for oneself found in the heart, not the mind. But acceptance of oneself needs to be coupled with the desire to become a better self. When I see that I’m needlessly self-centered, or arrogant, I must recognize it, and accept it for ‘what is’ at the present moment with love for myself, but to wish for these traits to fall away for they serve no good. To accept the negative aspects of oneself without the intent to change is carelessness towards the good of all.

    • Hi Annexi :)
I do not believe in ‘good’ or ‘bad’ aspects of the self. I think ‘good’ and ‘bad’ are terms that derive from judgement. At the soul level, there is no good and bad, just experience and looking at things from a place of neutrality. But at the same time I do agree with you and know what you mean, to love all aspects of ourselves with an understanding that we are an accumulation of our experiences. Awakening to yourself as a flawed and wonderous creation I agree too. At the same time I don’t believe we have flaws, or what we call flaws are simply things about ourselves that do not resonate with our true being, but at the same time we have to accept that without judging ourselves too. You make some excellent points and much of what you say resonates with me.

      • annexi

Thanks for the reply! When I say good and bad aspects of the self, I’m referring to my ego, which at this point is the only self I know. You use the term judging, but I see it moreso as ‘discerning’ between what is right and wrong in what I become aware of within my ego-self. I’m striving to know my soul/divine true self, but it is not apparent yet. I know it exists, for I have seen it in rare moments of enlightenment, but mostly all I am becoming aware of in my day-to-day is my ego brain/mind/self. How do I get to know this true being you speak of? It seems my ego/brain/mind self is the gatekeeper that draws the veil between itself and the one divinity I seek.

:) I see, that very much resonates with me. Knowing your ‘true being’ is knowing, tuning into and listening to your soul speak, your heart, your intuition. I’m still in the process of knowing and listening to it too :) But the intuitive voice is strong, it’s ‘surpassing’ the ego.

          • annexi

            INDEED! :)
