The Phenomenal Story of Nikola Tesla

tesla
I was doing a bunch of research on Nikola Tesla for some projects going on and came across this wicked image set that sums up Tesla’s story and the challenges that took place with Thomas Edison. The artist who did the work can be found at http://theoatmeal.com/  It’s and awesome site!

  1. What a time intensive effort this was for you to compile so much information! I have known who Tesla was since my teenage years, and he is a remarkable, brilliant, and extraordinary man.

    THE GREAT TESLA CONTRAVERSARY…..

  3. daniel heeter

Kinda stunned. Never had read much about Tesla in school. When i was a kid we all knew that Thomas Edison was the Father of Electricity…kinda like most peoples knowlege of Marijuana or God.

  4. ivana

I would just like to add that Tesla was in tuned with transcendental knowledge as well and was very spiritual, mainly kin to eastern religious philosophy. His relationship with pigeon was not reflexion of his madness in his old age, but his insight into higher reality of all things :)

  5. Tyaht Mondone

& fcuk westinghouse—he fcuked Tesla & us all. Just plug it in motherfcukers. Lol. douchebags.

btw the whole resioning behind no following through with geting enregy from the ionispher is the extremily large risk that you relise more energey than a 50MTn nuke a sec and wouldnt be able to stop it. so more along the lines of he realised how unbelivebly dangerous it would be and thought better of it as any rasonal sci would.

    • If one could actually harvest and direct all the energy. That’s not what he proposed. What makes u think his invention was dangerous. Heh, same thing Edison tried to say about ac power.

  7. Sianna rae

Thankyou for this very informative article

  8. Why don’t you mention JP Morgan? And why don’t you mention that the federal government seized all his papers when he died? Beyond that, doesn’t it make you mad that we could have free energy? Not until we convoke the Article V Convention. Google it.

  9. WYMAN ESSE

Whoooo Boy…!!! Finally, someone with the needed ‘stuff’ to put this out in the ‘world’….Just like Daniel Heater….I grew up knowing Edison and Westinghouse and Ford (who I thought invented the automobile) ….and did not know about Tesla at all until a few years ago when I looked up HAARP on the computer. I’ve read what I could find on him. He is TOP DOG in my estimation as to the GREATEST contributor in civilization….If only there could have been one….just one protective philanthropist to combat the “douchbags”…How different the U.S.A. could have been today. You mention the remote control…1899….isn[t that amazing? A toy boat operated by remote control OVER 100 Years ago. Mind blowing. So….why wasn’t this ever taught in public schools? Makes me wonder how much false B.S. is actually and really taught in school. I wonder is it’s the same in every country….pure propaganda.THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR YOUR DIGGING AND PRESENTATION.

  10. Karan Bedi

Man for god’s sake we need to spread this to the world……Thank you for sharing !! :D

  11. much of this, is just a popular myth.

    • A human being

Didn’t Tesla also die in prison, put there by the US govt. that deemed him a ‘quack’, or was that only Wilhelm Reich, another genius flattened by the wisdom of the powers that be?

    • A human being

Didn’t Tesla also die in prison, put there by the US govt. that deemed him a ‘quack’, or was that only Wilhelm Reich, another genius flattened by the wisdom of the powers that be?

    • Most of what is popular myth? The assertion that Edison was a douche and tesla invented the things claimed in the article? If that’s what you r trying to say u really should back it with some references… Otherwise as I can confirm have seen perfectly clear evidence that at least 80% of the articles claims are accurate. I have no reason to doubt the remaing 20.

      • jake levesque

No myths… thomas edison is douchbagger!!! There were way better ways to show nikola teslas inventions… not fucking steal them and say you did it… I believe without money, everything would be free and people would love to work… people would have jobs they acuaully like… people would work because everyone hates being bored and would end up doing something..

        • Exactly. I think u misunderstood me. I think tesla rocked. I was asking what popular myth was being referenced so I could understand the claim and properly debunk what I thought at the time was a negative response to the claims in the original post. In otherwords Edison *was indeed*a douchebag

      • Rand

Your inability to make your own research can not discredit the truth that was written.

        • See above. I think you misunderstood me like the other person who replied. I had the impression the original comment I replied to was claiming that it was a myth that tesla was so cool. It was not clear so I was asking ? But ultimately I support the original post in supporting tesla.

  12. milorad

I agree that Tesla was the greatest scientists that world have ever seen, and I am proud to be Serbian because of him. He is just one of great Serbian people that changed the world completely and I hope one day the whole world will realise what is Serbia and Serbians really like and not to believe in everything that they see on TV. I live in Germany, I have worked and
lived in USA and all my friends around the world were really surprised when they have learned little bit about Serbia or in some cases visited it. Google Serbia, learn about it and visit Serbia and you will see that Serbians are one of the friendliest people on Earth.

    • Markiza

Milorad, I wondered…how many times in one post can you repeat the word “Serbian” and “great”… Using the text about Tesla (who was btw, born and raised in Croatia) for your own self-promotion, changing historical facts and the way the world sees you-yes, that is great!
      I love it!…… SO NOT!

      • area51thc

        hahahahahahaha

        - Klanjam se, Ekselencijo!
        - Moja je titula viša – upozori ga Tesla
        - Visočanstvo? – promuca portir
        - Još viša – kaže Tesla
        - Veličanstvo? – jedva izgovori portir
        - Još više – kaže hladnokrvno Tesla
Tu već portir zanijemi, jer veće titule nije znao
        - Ja sam Srbin – rastumači mirno i dostojanstveno Tesla.

Predhodno je održao predavanje u Udruženju elektroinženjera Velike Britanije u Londonu 3. februara i ponovio isto predavanje članovima Kraljevskog instituta Velike Britanije 4. februara 1892. god.

      • Maja

Tesla`s father was an Orthodos priest in Croatia, which means he was a greatest Serb, then the others. If you know anything about Serbia and Croatia, you will understand…Sorry for my English. And now when almost whole word has so bad oppinion about us, we have right to be proud of this man. just a litlle bit…

    • Dan

      @milorad:

Tesla was one of the greatest scientists ever, definitely. Not sure if he was the greatest!

But let’s not forget that Tesla was an outlier and all the other Serbian “great” men combined didn’t even account for half of what he did. He was actually the only great Serbian with major contributions to the development of the world.

  13. Fig

I think one of the barriers here is that most people have become invested in a alternative version of history when it comes to Tesla, Edison and Westinghouse. It seems impossible that Edison was not the “father of electricity”. In fact your ability to turn your television on and off, start your vacuum, put a shake in a blender, all are the result of Tesla’s work. Despite the persecution Tesla experienced, Alternativing Current (as opposed to Edison’s direct current-the system used with batteries) was adopted by the entire world to power it’s homes. What Tesla could have done if he had found a backer with vision and a sense of ethics will remain a mystery forever.

  14. Amaru

It would be nice to do some research before taking things from wiki. Tesla was born in Croatia and it’s kind a silly to call him a serbian-american, he could be described as srbo-croat, the way he described himself, becouse he was born and rased in Croatia and his family lived in croatia for few hunderd years before him so … anyway he did all kind of crazy things and it only remains to be seen what he has prepared for the future. There is a great museum in his birth place http://www.mcnikolatesla.hr/ . Just for a fact, highschool I went in is the same one tesla also went in. Sorry for my bad english.

    • Dan

      @Markiza:

Your statements are inconsistent and self-contradictory.

      So you say that:
      1) Tesla should not be called serbian-american
      2) He was a croat (even though he was born in serbian family) just because he was born and spent a few years of his life in Croatia.

      That sounds ludicrous !
He spent more time in the US than in Croatia (he chosed to do so).
He built all of his major inventions in US.
After arriving in the US, he never expressed any wish of ever going back to Croatia.

Croatia, just like US, was a country where Tesla spent some years of his life.
The major difference is that he chosed to be in the US.

Croatia had no contribution to Tesla becoming a great man ! They are just desperately trying to reap some of the profits !

    • Dan

      @Amaru:

It would be nice if you could do some actual RESEARCH before speaking up your cheap propaganda.

“On 30 July 1891, at the age of 35, Tesla became a naturalized citizen of the United States. He told many of his companions that he valued the citizenship more than any scientific honors that he had acquired”

So calling him serbian-american is 100% correct.
Besides, he spent 59 years in the US, without going back to Serbia or Croatia for a single day and without expressing a single intent of wishing to go back.

    • scratch

In the american biography he is considered as a Serbian immigrant origin. In reality he was Istro-Romanian born in Croatia on the night of 9 to 10 July 1856 as the son of an Orthodox priest Milutin Tesla and Gica term. His father’s family where Ottoman guards in the former Austro-Hungarian Empire. Family name was originally Draghici, but he was replaced in time, the nickname of Tesla transmitted by job family, carpenter (teslari).

  15. Ned,

Thank you Joe for sharing these facts, as Nikola Tesla hasn’t been recognized as one of the most important men who ever lived on Earth if it wasn’t for people like you. More importantly, he selflessly shared and lived his life, providing all of his time, experience, love and knowledge for us and our next generation.

Yet, there are still many people out there who want to whitewash, hide or change all the facts about him, Nikola Tesla never worried about these people, because he has lived for the future and in the future and knew exactly what will happen than.

In addition, I am proudly Serb and Nikola Tesla was Serb just 50km from my born place, but personally I think he’s from another Universe, our gift from the God!

  16. I just want to add that one of Hitler’s personal bodygards, in his memories wrote before dying, boasted of having killed Tesla and stolen his patents. I don’t know if you were aware of that.

  17. the Master

another example of how belief becomes a people’s truth despite the truth.

another example of how credit belongs to those who value it the most.

Tesla simply didn’t give a *** about trivial things like credit. He did it to fulfill his own intellectual happiness and have every right to do so. If that made humanity a more advanced specie, so be it.

sorry, but bitching about how Tesla received disproportionate credit, fame, wealth, respect, etc. won’t change history and won’t change the future

we still live a world prioritized by practicality and profitability and… as you have very well versed… douchebags, there will always be douchebags that come along and spoil the fun and steal from others

so we shouldn’t lament for feel in anyway depressed about Tesla. He wouldn’t have wanted that. In fact, we should thank him but not out of anger but out of love.

oh one more thing, bitch all you please, but make sure you channel that anger and hatred of injustice into action, action that propels people to actually care about the legacy of their own actions, so new inventions and innovation from geniuses (basically everyone) are now simply thrown out there, given away by hungry beasts, but protected by their founders and safely nurtured until maturity. (exactly just like a baby)

Serbo-American?! WTF?! I don`t think so! Actually, Nikola Tesla was of Serbian origins, since his father was Serbian, however, he was a CROAT, born, raised and living in Croatia, a town called Smiljan! And he had no intentions to rule the world and conquer other nations around him with his inventions, but to improve the world and to make it a better place! I am proud that he was a CROAT!

Dan, it has to be nice to know Tesla`s thoughts and wishes since you both were close friends. :-P Would you please make sure that you know the facts before you call somebody`s statements contradictory. I do not think that post was contradictory and let me explain in details. I do not give a damn if he was a Croat or a Serb, he was actually both, since his father was a Serb, his mother a Croat, and it is well known that his predecessors came from Zadar, Croatia, but his great grandpa changed his religion and married a Serbian girl. He spent all of his childhood, primary and secondary school in Croatia (I do not know how many years you go to school-a few years, you stated?I am sorry to hear that…). (It is also known that he loved bird watching because he was surrounded by nature in his hometown Smiljan..:-) After that another 2 years have passed when he ended up in Graz and Prague where he went to university and so on…. Yes, he decided to become an American citizen, sadly because even today when things have changed and when we have a quality education system, young people who want to develop and improve their knowledge and expertise decide to go abroad because we still do not have means to develop their ideas (many famous scientists come from Croatia today but practice their work elsewhere). He has never forgotten who he was and where he came from and he clearly stated that he was a Serb and a Croat! America gave him the means to develop his thoughts and knowledge into reality which is a great contribution, however nobody can say that he was Serbo-American! That is just wrong!

    • carnasso

Marxista, you are a ignorant arrogant douchebag. Croatia didn’t even EXIST when Tesla was born, it was Austrian empire. Croatians have always been colonized by muslims who fucked their brains out and ever since they keep trying to become someone they’re not. Like all cowards, they were Muslim under Muslims, Nazi under Nazis, and Austrian under Austrians.

    • carnasso

Thank you very much for sharing this great article. I wish the Croatians here would stop bitching and claiming M. Tesla, their country didn’t even exist at that time, it was part of the Austrian empire. Ever since Croatians have been colonized by turcs in XVth century and turned by force into Muslims, they try to prove something by taking others down and betraying their brothers. We don’t give a fuck. Nikolai Tesla knew better than to stay in this fucked up country full of fucked up people who were bitching against his family simply because they were serbs, even though there was no “Croatia” as such. They betrayed him, now they want to claim him. So “smart” hu hu. If it had been under Hitler, these Nazi friendly people would’ve turned them in.

Same thing happens to geniuses today! As soon as someone’s extraordinary talent is recognized there is someone else breathing down his neck, looking for a way to exploit it, including the government. Artists and scientists alike know this scenario all too well… Case in point, the real story behind the invention of the laser.

  25. jenn_seven

That article was weird and gross.

  26. Optimyst

Who gives a shit where this great character came from! Trying to reap profit from his origins is useless and on top of that, PATHETIC! He was a great man. He changed the world indefinitely. Quit your bitching and stop raining on Teslas parade!

  31. Tesla may have been eccentric, but he was a genius and a kind-hearted soul who wanted the entire world to have free energy. The Smithsonian Institute has tried to screw Tesla over by limiting anything about him. So has the public school system. Don’t allow this. Please share the info about Tesla and let’s help get the world as much free energy as possible.

Tesla was poisoned in his hotel room the day before announcing his results on free energy. to the people that dont get this, go back to your playstations, paying banks, watching cnn and watching the superbowl. Clowns!

  40. Jim

One little correction and two additions. Tesla invented airwave-wireless, but groundwave-wireless was pioneered a couple of decades earlier by Nathan Stubblefield. No one uses groundwaves except the military. Poor bandwidth, but high security. Also, Tesla invented fluorescent lighting as well as neon, AND TELEVISION were also invented by Tesla.

But thanks for the inspiration! I’ll probably take a trip to Menlo Park to urinate on Edison’s grave now.

A couple of years back, I visited the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), and found it telling that they had a list of “Ten of the greatest inventors of the 20th century”, and on that list they mentioned the woman who invented windshield wipers as well as incorrectly crediting Marconi with the invention of radio. They omitted Tesla, three of whose hydroelectric generators was standing, I swear this is the truth, less than 30 feet from the placard, with unobstructed view. I know this was done intentionally, and I left OMSI a nastygram in their suggestions/feedback box at the end of my visit.

tesla was serb by his origins simply because his mother and father, then their mother and father, then their mother and father, etc.., were serbs. Furthermore, his mother s family were well known and respected by being orthodox priests for generations, and as we all know (do we really?), croats r catholics, just hating everything connecting with orthodoxy (ok, except Nikola Tesla). As simple as that, and no matter where he had happened to be born.
Apart the fact croatia had never existed before 1991, simply never.
Tesla s Museum – http://www.tesla-museum.org/meni_en.htm is located in Belgrade, Serbia – any clue why is it so?!

Tesla did not “discover” AC power, he merely created the safest way to use it. Other scientists were alreayd toying with AC current, people like Micheal Faraday.

“Sirius” is a feature length documentary that follows Dr. Steven Greer – an Emergency Medicine doctor turned UFO/ New Energy researcher – as he struggles to disclose top secret information about classified energy & propulsion techniques. Along the way, Dr. Greer investigates new technology and sheds light on criminal suppression. He accumulates over 100 Government, Military, and Intelligence Community witnesses who testify on record about their first-hand experiences with UFOs and with the cover-up.

In the course of his research Dr. Greer is asked to look at an amazing find: a humanoid specimen, 6 inches long from the Atacama Desert. Not until 2012 was he given permission to take bone samples and DNA from the specimen. At that same time a pre-eminent geneticist, hearing of this find, offered to do DNA testing. He enlisted an MD from the same university,- world renowned for his work with skeletal anomalies, to view the x-rays and CT scans. Their expertise along with Dr. Greer’s expansive knowledge of the subject bring more questions than answers. Where did this “Atacama Humanoid” come from? Are there others like it? What does it say about the origin of the human species?

While on this odyssey, the audience gains a whole new perspective on technology, human evolution, and clandestine organizations who have manipulated and controlled the public for centuries.
