The 12 Most Chemically Ridden Produce Items You Should Buy Organic

dirtydozenproduceI wanted to start this one off with the positives. I have noticed that in grocery stores these days, more and more organic items are stocked on the shelves and in produce aisles. While organic doesn’t necessarily mean the food is amazing for you and completely clean, it is certainly cleaner than conventional produce. By law, any produce certified as organic cannot be GMO, which is a big plus. Sure you may have to pay more for organic produce, but in research I have been doing (which I intend to report on sometime soon) not only is organic produce better for you than conventional because of the lack of pesticides, but the farming practices and lack of chemicals in organic farming creates a more nutrient dense product. While there has been a lot of mis-information spread lately about this in mainstream media and by certain companies, the science behind their claims is quite flawed.

Not all of us can afford eating a completely organic diet, but this doesn’t mean we should not buy produce because of pesticides. It’s clear that eating conventional produce is much better than a diet that is more focused on processed foods and animal products. So if you are tight on resources and have to focus on only buying certain items organically, check out this list to know how to make smarter choices at the market.

Thanks to the Environmental Working Group, we have a list of 12 items that are considered “the dirty dozen” and a list of 15 that are considered “clean.”

The dirty dozen

When it comes to these items, try to buy these in organic form to avoid the excessive amounts  of pesticide.

1. Strawberries
2. Celery
3. Apples
4. Peaches
5. Spinach
6. Nectarines
7. Kale/collard greens
8. Sweet bell peppers
9. Lettuce
10. Blueberries
11. Potatoes
12. Grapes

The clean 15

These 15 produce items are known by the EWG as the “clean 15″. They have the least amount of pesticides and would be considered the items to buy if you can’t afford to go completely organic.

1. Grapefruit
2. Sweet corn (This is generally GMO, so you may want to always stick to organic with corn)
3. Pineapples
4. Avocado
5. Mushrooms
6. Cantaloupe
7. Sweet potatoes
8. Eggplant
9. Sweet peas
10. Kiwi
11. Cabbage
12. Watermelon
13. Mangoes
14. Onions
15. Asparagus

Based on an analysis conducted over a period of time between 2001 – 2009 by the USDA and FDA, 53 popular produce items were tested creating a series of 51,000 tests. The produce items were rinsed and peeled to recreate the general conditions in which they are consumed. The conclusion of the analysis confirmed that if someone were to eat from the clean 15 and purchased organically from the dirty dozen, they would lower their pesticide intake by 92%.

Although there have not been long enough studies done to fully determine all of the dangers associated with pesticides, pesticide companies claim that there are no health risks associated with pesticides. Obviously this type of claim is based on the opinion of the companies and not any sort of data. It is believed that generally people have more pesticides going through their system than what is reported by these companies.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU TAKE YOUR SYNTHROID DO YOU HAVE TO WAIT TO EAT GRAPEFRUIT?

  2. You are still at risk when you eat non-organic “clean 15″ fruits and vegetables because some farmers buy seeds that have been dipped in pesticides as a way to avoid spraying. That means the pesticide is part and parcle of the fruit/vegetable. No amount of cleaning the fruit/vegetable will eliminate that. These dipped seed crops are harming the bees who pollinate them and causing Colony Colapse Disorder (CCD). It is an alarming problem! Don’t take chances, buy local and go organic all the way!

      Thanks for that information Lizette

actually GMO corn containing systemic pesticide screwed the bees

  4. Why on earth is it a “big plus” that the Organic industry outlaws the entire field of technology that is GM? (Hint: of course it isn’t – it’s utterly perverse: http://www.marklynas.org/2013/01/lecture-to-oxford-farming-conference-3-january-2013/ http://vimeo.com/58488934 ) and, contrary to the mis-information and flawed science spread by the EWP and others, Organic produce is neither more nutritious nor meaningfully safer than non-Organic: http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/index.php/no-health-benefits-from-organic-food/

    • Paul, Since we Don’t Believe in Eating Pesticides or any other chemical we will Not eat GMO’s. Get It; were Not Buying the chemicals you’re selling. Fail!

Unfortunately science today has become the new religion of tomorrow, unfortunately now, just as dogmatic!

Critical thinking and logic In itself has certainly moulded our existence over the last 200 or so years , but unfortunately one other ingredient has entered the equation recently, that ingredient unfortunately is corporate corruption, on a unprecedented scale!

Most of the science in recent years has practically always been funded by large corporations, with their primary interest in selling a product, to the so-called consumer with absolutely no interest in health or for that matter anything else but unbridled greed and profit,

Where any so-called evidence and especially the trials for food safety as is mandatory with any new product, have been so corrupted has to be all but meaningless in the great majority of cases where corporate interest and bribery has a hand,

So with all things considered on a level playing field, science can be indeed a extremely positive ally to man’s continued development, as demonstrated in the last 200 years,

But unfortunately in recent years it has been degraded by a dogmatic system of belief that no longer resonates with scientific principles, especially in the established scientific community, so no longer has any reliable credibility,

Take for instance the use of ‘sodium fluoride’ in drinking water as one simple example,

Where for at least 50 years, in some parts of the world, it has become mandatory? with so-called scientific evidence that states that it’s absolutely safe? but unfortunately due to corruption and corporate greed, this is absolutely false, and there is so much evidence, to the contrary that it bewilders me how they can still bleat out there lies,

Isn’t it no wonder that so-called scientific proof nowadays holds no value to the better informed and realists and not forgetting the poor unfortunate people that are dying like flies, due in cancers etc,

Which just 60 years ago was not on even on the agenda! but for the chemicals; pesticides, herbicides, fungicides genetic mutation of species etc etc simply for profit and increased profit yields, but nowadays 1 in 3 in our Western societies will experience some form of cancer in their lifetime! this phenomena is increasing by the day! and this is just one example of a myriad of other so-called scientific certainties that the scientific community has misinformed the general population about, which up until now the ordinary layman had no way of knowing or defending against…..

    I’m in total agreement with this posting by collective evolution, and might add;

Humans have always eaten organic food since the very start of humanity, it’s only since the corporations have manipulated our food that their has been a Question mark over its contents. and as a species with not really been exposed long enough to ascertain the effects of industrial farming, even people today living in their 60s were born into all organic farming principles, as industrial farming simply didn’t exist!

True organic food to me, tastes different and better, you have to store it in cooler temperatures otherwise it naturally degrades faster than non-organic food with preservatives, whether the calorific value is any different to a irradiated chemically ladened variety or not, to someone else’s point of view is simply a matter of taste, but surely on ethical grounds alone organic is simply more sustainable, considering it doesn’t impact the environment and in part nitrates and other chemicals, such pesticides, herbicides and fungicides, even the worms don’t exist in the ground where these crops grow now, with the monoculture principles of industrial farming and wildlife has been devastated, with organic principles of farming by its very nature needs to interact with the creatures so as to give a certain amount of diversity such as predator and prey and is not grown in vast quantities such as industrial farming, and is interspersed with different crops on crop rotation principles, unlike monoculture where the same crop is grown year after year such as wheat etc, as they simply use a different chemical to eradicate a so called pest species so pest don’t become a problem for them,

There is another school of thought one must consider if one purchases whole vegetables and fruits, what ever has been sprayed upon them is also no doubt present on the surface of the produce, which is obvious, whether washing them under water for a few seconds can eliminate these chemicals which have inevitably been sprayed on them is open to debate, and no doubt has leached well inside anyway,

So at the end of the day it’s up to the consumer, or the person purchasing the product whether he or she feels comfortable with the product knowing there could be an issue with the chemicals present in non-organic produce.

I find by reading, what has been printed in this.Propaganda, that all the organic foods now days, is only another way of collecting more money from the customers, than what the farmers get paid for the same product at the stores and markets.

You have to realize there is a huge population that is being fed
Would not be accomplished without mass production with some of these chemicals
    Don’t like it
Grab a ho and do some work
    Or shut up
I also like how people read something on the google and decide they are experts on food and science or how it behaves in the body
    Educate yourself

Like what you’ve posted Jonathan, so true, mass production leads to these unhealthy practices, need to buy at smaller and local markets and do some of the work ourselves, gardening and hunting, this includes our meat sources too, local farms, if you don’t hunt or garden, raise a better healthier meat and plant source if done right, like in the old days, mass production has made some of us very rich and a lot of us very sick, just for the sake of convenience, we’ve done this to ourselves.

“Sirius” is a feature length documentary that follows Dr. Steven Greer – an Emergency Medicine doctor turned UFO/ New Energy researcher – as he struggles to disclose top secret information about classified energy & propulsion techniques. Along the way, Dr. Greer investigates new technology and sheds light on criminal suppression. He accumulates over 100 Government, Military, and Intelligence Community witnesses who testify on record about their first-hand experiences with UFOs and with the cover-up.

In the course of his research Dr. Greer is asked to look at an amazing find: a humanoid specimen, 6 inches long from the Atacama Desert. Not until 2012 was he given permission to take bone samples and DNA from the specimen. At that same time a pre-eminent geneticist, hearing of this find, offered to do DNA testing. He enlisted an MD from the same university,- world renowned for his work with skeletal anomalies, to view the x-rays and CT scans. Their expertise along with Dr. Greer’s expansive knowledge of the subject bring more questions than answers. Where did this “Atacama Humanoid” come from? Are there others like it? What does it say about the origin of the human species?

While on this odyssey, the audience gains a whole new perspective on technology, human evolution, and clandestine organizations who have manipulated and controlled the public for centuries.
