Our lives feature the daily use technology, that’s normal and there’s nothing wrong with that. It is my feeling that sometimes we demonize technology as if it has taken us away from nature and our natural state. More accurately I feel it is our state of being combined with technology that pulls us away from nature. Technology is amazing. It makes life more efficient, effective and we can expand as a whole much more easily. I feel technological advancement is crucial for humanity to live in a more free and harmonious world, but it is more so my feeling that we must change our way of being for the technology to even matter. It is true that we can get lost in technology, spend too much time engaged in it and forget to go back to nature. This can be for a number of reasons, and I have a challenge that will help identify them.
This is something I used to do a few years ago and I think it will be a nice time to try it out again. I call it ‘No Technology Days.’
– 24 hour periods
– no cell phones, tv, computers, video games, music etc.
– if you absolutely need something for health, then that is fine
– driving a car or taking transit is fine
It’s pretty simple really, the idea is to limit the use of electronics, which can sometimes be distractions, so that we can enjoy ourselves, family, friends, nature, pets etc. even further. I like doing these because it gets you doing things you may normally not do during the day or things you have been putting off for a while. Get back to that book you have been wanting to read, meet with some friends, meditate, relax, or go for a walk. There’s much to do without our everyday devices. It’s also a good time to reflect on how you feel when you aren’t sure what to do or if you begin feeling anxious.
Given the fact that running this site takes such a great deal of work each day, I can’t do this challenge too many times throughout the week. I will be doing no technology days during each Sunday of April. Much like the 30 Days of You Challenge, I will be sharing my results following each day in the discussion section of the website. Check it out and try this out for yourself! Share your results in the discussion also.
