Marijuana Controls Seizure Activity

How do I describe it? No, how do I make you feel it? I need you to feel it. For your teeth to be chattering, for you to be letting out a sound that identically resembles the sounds that people used to make fun of autistic kids for in elementary; and for the lights to go out from the bottom up until you have no control, as if you are a soul inside a body not your own, and someone else is dragging the body to the floor. It’s not your body anymore. But you are trapped deep within there, and you can feel the invisible by standers who stand back in fear. You cannot keep it together physically, you are no longer connected with your physical body; but you can control your mental state if you focus. It is challenging to focus when their eyes are burning through you as you flop around like a fish on dry land though. Once it is over you slowly open your eyes, in the same way you slowly lifted up the bed skirt to check for monsters when you were a child. Maybe if you take long enough to open your eyes they will leave.

Nope. Three bulging eyes are assaulting you from five feet away.

“Maybe they smoked crack,” you think, trying to reassure yourself they aren’t staring at your still rigid body; a human 2X4

“We better get going so we aren’t late for Susan’s Mary Kay party.”

And they walk on. Hanging from the neck of one of the women is a diamond cross. It is a nice sized one too; almost as if it is speaking to you for her, so she doesn’t have to waste her time. “I’m Christian,” it screams. “Well, we’re not acting like it,” her actions scream back.

You have no clue what they really looked like; your vision is still blurred. Bulging eyes are so violating though, you had no choice but to acknowledge them. Gone. They watched you suffer and now they are gone. Like a sick form of entertainment, enjoying a human in pain. Enjoying two humans in pain actually. Your mom is by your side, wiping the sweat off your head and hugging you. You feel awful, not for yourself but for her. She had to witness the entire horror show. Her kid, squirming around like a snake for an audience, who not a single person stepped forward from.  Shaking your head, you both laugh. You are used to this routine. You just had a seizure. You always do.

Cannabis & Seizures

marijuana-california-envUse of cannabis to successfully treat seizures dates back to ancient times, long before capsules filled with man-made chemicals stole the spotlight and criminalized marijuana’s use. This scenario would be logical if cannabis failed to treat seizures, and if pharmaceuticals were more successful at doing so –but logic and reality cease to line up all too often in the world we live in. The truth is, finding a prescription that truly controls out of control seizure activity is, for many people, not plausible. More disturbing is that present day seizure medicines come equipped not only with a laundry list full of negative side effects, but with intense withdrawal symptoms as well –including increased seizure activity, the very thing they are prescribed to “stop.”

So why deny suffering individuals the right to use medicine that will possibly offer more relief than prescription drugs? Especially when it is a natural substance? Well, because of the mind altering effects of marijuana, claims the pharmaceutical companies. If that is truly the reason behind it all, then they better go ahead and pull their own seizure medicines off the shelf; because their expressed concern would be more believable if the prescription pills used to treat seizures did not alter the mind as well.

There are two general groups of seizures: Epileptic seizures (consisting of numerous sub-types), which cause an abnormal burst of electrical impulses to go to the brain; and then there are pseudo seizures, which are seizures caused by too much stress on the brain. Pseudo seizures are sometimes associated with a neurological disease that is putting the patient’s brain in distress. Of the many compounds found in cannabis, CBD, is one whose effects directly benefit individuals suffering from epileptic seizure activity. CBD is a relaxant, a natural anticonvulsant if you will. CBD also directly helps control pseudo seizures since it naturally relaxes the brain, thereby solving the root problem: taking excess pressure off the brain.

Digging deeper, one can see how CBD and other healing components of marijuana are a major threat to big pharma, as they have the potential to wipe them out if given the chance  –which is one of the most popular, presumed reasons why marijuana is still illegal. Along with the other equally heavy reason: the people in society who still believe the western medical world is one that cares for their well-being more than dollar signs.

How my daughter Epilepsy was cured with cannabis oil

My daughter Maris have suffered from epilepsy from the past 7 years but no cure until i heard about cannabis oil and its fast curing effectiveness,I was directed by someone who have used the cannabis oil to cure her epileptic son to get the cannabis oil from the cancer centre London and she gave me an email to contact the centre ( londoncancercentre@gmail.com ) and i did immediately and i bought the cannabis oil and instruction on how to use it was given to me, I started the medication for my daughter and after she had taken the oil as prescribed, the seizures stopped and was cured and healthy again. I so happy now for the new development in my family.

  2. Hi for preventative health, you can consume CBD capsules. We did the research because my daughter’s migraine headaches and panic attacks and her American bulldog was having seizures and it led me to understand the importance of consuming CBD. We are amazed at the results. You can check out. http://hope for cbd.com.

  3. VaNiece

My Yorkie was having violent seizures. I started him on hemp oil. It is 3% CBD and under2% THC. He was having around 5 seizures a day. He went for 30 days seizure free after starting him on hemp oil. He had one seizure today. I buy it from headshop Apollyon in thenetherlands. It took me several months to find a place I could get it. I just want to share this to anyone who needs hemp for their dog’s seizures.

  4. With biotoxin illness and 3 hours of seizure attacks daily for the last 8 months, I was pretty beat up. High CBD hemp oil from Bluebird Botanicals is taking down all of the symptoms slowly but surely. So grateful to have found an oil that’s legal in all 50 states! Use code julieh10 for a discount!

  5. I started having seizures at age 38 shortly after a c-section which required epidural. They tried numerous meds over the years; I am now 56 and lamictal has been effective after the trial and error process. However I am a marijuana smoker on a regular basis; it controls anxiety and stress which helps me cope, stay relaxed and decrease stress and anxiety levels. Get legal and let us feel free to use what works and reduce another anxiety of worrying about legality. Drug companies you are legal thiefs harming many for the almighty dollar…tell us…do you guys smoke??!! Start selling weed as the med and see how much money you make!!!!

  7. jemel walker

i have a friend whos epileptic and i heard about cbd being able to slow down or stop seizures .where can i purchase cbd for her please.

    • Ray M

      Jemel,

Depends where you are located. North Cal much easier. You need to find a strain that has nearly no THC and the highest CBD 17%+ lab tested. You also want to tell Neurology that you have decided to do this. It is or can be dangerous to take THC if you are on Anti-seizure meds.

  8. Lucky for me I don’t remember my grand maul seizures, I wake up on the ground, confused and with temporary amnesia.. but I stopped having them when I stopped eating anything with MSG or Aspartame. The medication I was on before gave my daughter spinal bifida (I was pregnant at the time) and me dystonia for life.. and it didn’t ever work. Later on I was put on a different med that was better and actually worked, but gave me a vitamin D deficiency and made me extremely drowsy. Eventually I became a vegetarian and my boyfriend encouraged me to stop drinking diet soda and to give up all artificial sweeteners, which I did. I then noticed that I didn’t need my medication as much anymore.. until I ate something that had MSG in it. I started reading labels and avoided anything that had either of those ingredients. And now, over 1 year later, I still have not taken or needed any medication. I found out that both artificial sweeteners (and even natural ones like Stevia!) and MSG produce the same reaction in the brain, they overstimulate your brain cells to death.. No wonder they were giving me seizures!

I encourage anyone with epilepsy or seizure disorders to avoid artificial sweeteners (and even Stevia) and MSG because it a good first step in finding a natural alternative treatment. It can actually be quite difficult because many restaurants have MSG in their food, mostly chicken and meat products (McDonald’s, KFC, Little Ceasar’s, you name it!) and many products have aspartame and MSG as well that you wouldn’t even think of having it (yogurt has Aspartame, Doritos have MSG, and the list goes on).

Pot can work too and is better in my opinion that any man made drug due to not having any of the bad side effects that I mentioned above, but it’s a lot cheaper and better for your health to just avoid foods or ingredients that may be causing the seizures in the first place..

  9. We live in NC and I have a 5 yr old that started having seizures at 6 months old. We have tried countless medicines to date and NOTHING has helped. He has 3-5 Grand Mals a day. I have been researching this for a long time now and reading so many sucess stories. NC is not yet a legal state but I so want to try CBD for my son. Does anyone know where I could go for support or more info??

    • jen

for anyone with seizures they need change in diet NO wheat-dairy-sugar! add in your minerals supplement and take zinc ,mito met and depending on the person malic acid. i have a son who had more seizures on the VPA. i seen a natural-path dr and it completely changed our lives and no more seizure meds and a complete 180 in school and got an award :) don’t take the meds docs prescribe they just want a profit!

      • renae

Hi Michelle, how old is your dog & weight?

    • michelle

dixie botanicals (2oz of 500 mg cbd tincture or oil for $160, but if you join the free membership it is only $120 month. my dog has grand mal cluster seizures and they were coming every 3 weeks. his last set he had 40 in a couple days. his prognosis was poor. he has now went the longest (40 days)since starting to have seizures back in april, which was also 2 weeks post vaccinations. you can also order cibdex they sell the exact oil 2oz, 500 mg for $160, but they don’t have a membership but sometimes they have a sale, the last one, the bottle was $99. i believe my dog got encephalitis thus inflammation of the brain. the vet denies it of course, however no other antiseizure med worked for him. i feel his head getting warm, but no temperature when i check, and so i started giving him 1/2 to 1 dropper full. within 10 minutes his head feeling warm would be gone for hours. at night i notice his head gets warmer and this is when i usually give him one full dropper. no seizures through the night, no seizures during daytime naps, no sniffing and then seizing. this is a miracle. i plan to eventually reduce his phenobarbital and potassium bromide when he has been 60-90 days seizure free. i am afraid of the anti seizure meds causing liver damage,so in the meantime, i give him chinese herbs and dandelion root and milk thistle to provide liver support and detox. I also give him 3 pills of broken cell wall chlorella to help detox.

    • Here is a site that sells CBD and it is legal: https://www.facebook.com/DixieBotanicals
Also this site has a great amount of info on CBD.http://www.projectcbd.org/
My grandson lives with us and he has seizures, autism, reactive hypoglycemia, in non-verbal and has many other issues. He has been gluten-free, dairy-free, dye-free and eats a healthy ketogentic style diet and still has seizures – they are better but not gone. We want to use the CBD’s with him and see what happens. I wish we lived in CO or another state with better laws but until then we are going to try this.

  10. I’ve been an epileptic for my whole life and spent the first 14 years trying different anti seizure medications yet nothing worked to control my seizures and at my worst I would append most of the day in and out of seizures it got to the point where I just wanted to end it all as the life I was living was no sort of live I couldnt even get one hour a day without a seizure happening the a friend of my dad said maybe I should try marijuana my dad was a bit weary but was willing to try it since nothing else was working for me we organised for me to get a little bit and my dads friend taught me how to smoke it the next day i woke up nd had some to start my day for the first time in my life I got thru a whole day without having one single seizure the next day we tried a day without it I lasted all of 45 minutes before the seizures started again Abby lunch time that day I had had over 56 seizures lasting from less than a minute up to 10 minutes at a timemy dad rang his friend and organised to get some more n within minutes of me having it my seizures stooped again we took this info to my specalist and my Dr who decided to out me on a 6 month trial of using marijuana on a daily basis to control my seizures it worked well for the whole 6 months I had only two seizures and since then I’ve been a daily user of marijuana illegal or not it saves me from living a life of pain and seizures not to mention ridicule and torment and I function extremely well as a human being I can now say I’ve got a life worth living in my opinion

  11. I had partial complex seizures for 20 years. The lowered stress levels gave me the confidence to have the right temporal lobe removed 5 years ago. I am sill seizure free

  12. David D.

Deekay is incorrect. Yes, Cannabidiol helps prevent seizures but the plants they use have a higher CBD content than THC content. The plants STILL have THC in then it’s just that CBD counteracts the effects of THC. If what DeeKay is saying were true then you’d may as well smoke HEMP. It’s loaded in CBD and less than .03% THC. And that just isn’t the case.
So DeeKay, please get your facts straight before you decide to help people.
False information is of no help at all.

    • you and Deekay just said almost the same thing…I’m lost. What are you trying to say about the importance of THC?

    • rachelle

David get your facts right we use rsho which is no THC and 19% cbd to treat my dog’s severe seizures AND THANK GOD IT WORKS. its a FACT that THC has very few medical benefits while cbd has hundreds. It’s also a fact that THC WILL INDUCE SEIZURES in people with epilepsy. Really the only major things THC medically helps is hunger and pain relief. THC ISN’T WHAT PEOPLE NEED IT’S CBD!

      • michelle

Rachelle, my dog has seizures too. he started getting grand mal seizures only 3 weeks post vaccination. i am giving him cibdex or dixie botanicals 500 mg cannaboidoi (made from hemp). he still has seizures but not near as much. he usually has grand mal clusters. his last set of clusters were 40, i thought he was going to die. this was in september. after this, we tried the cibdex brand out of california. i give him one dropper in the a.m. and one in the p.m., still testing the effects and have played around a bit with it along with 500 mg GABA same times. he is still on phenobarbital, although i don’t think it really helps, am hoping to get him off this in the future. he is also on potassium bromide and back in september he was given keppra as an emergency treatment line only. i can tell when he is going to have a seizure because his eyes twitch/blink a lot faster than normal. also, he gets clingy and wants to be held. this usually gives me approximately 30 minutes to respond, and i give him a 1/2 keppra equaling 250 mg, and a dropper of cbd. if i don’t catch it and he has a seizure after the first seizure i immediately give him one full pill to 1 1/2 (750 mg) total. he will still end up having about 3 more seizures while waiting for it to kick in depending on the cycling of his seizures. when the 12hrs is up, sometimes the seizures want to continue and again if i feel it coming i do the same thing, usually the second dosage is good enough to ward it away for the next cycle. they were coming every 3 weeks and are now coming every two weeks, although the seizures are not as violent.

QUESTIONS: what is the name of the cbd and the company you give your dog and is it from hemp so that i can possibly get my dog some? how often does your dog have seizures now that he is on this?

        Thank you. Michellle

  13. Vicky

I’m an epileptic and I completely support legalizing weed. I’m on anti-seizure meds and I hate the side effects. I feel that it has dumbed me down. And I’m an engineering student, so I can’t be dumbed down. I really want to get off of them but I was told it’s a long process.

When I feel a seizure coming, I’ll smoke a little and I’ll feel a lot better. However, there were times where I smoked, and still had a seizure…So I can’t say that it’ll stop your seizures. But it does take that shitty feeling away after the seizure.

    • gary

i too am an epileptic, been on every rx to date!marijuana has helped me control my seizures and has given me a better life!i support it 100%

    • michelle

sometimes the thc can cause some people to have more seizures because it can make you paranoid. if you get a product such as cibdex or dixie botanicals that are virtually thc free but high in cbd, than you will likely be seizure free and not have any side effects.

  14. BRIAN HOUGHTLING

I THINK THATS GREAT THAT MARIJUANA HELPS WITH SEIZURES AND AMONG OTHER THINGS AND IM GLAD PPL ARE STARTING TO REALIZE JUST THAT NOW IF ONLY THE FCC WOULD LET IT GO AND JUST LET PPL MEDICATE FUCK THEY ARE QUICK TO PRESCRIBE OXYCONTON FOR PAIN OR AMBEIN FOR SLEEP OR FUCKIN XANAX AND THEE WORST OF ALL SUBOXONE AND SUBUTEX WOW TALK ABOUT DRUGS THAT ARE BAD HOW ABOUT ABILIFY JUST THE SIDE AFFECTS ALONE ARE TERIBLE MAN WOW

  15. nun ya

I use to have seizures regularly, sometimes twice a month, twice a week. One night I had the feeling of a seizure coming on, someone offered me a hit off a joint I took 2. And to my amazement I felt miraculously better. That feeling of having a seizure was gone

Well if you are anxious about the act of smoking pot, or about being high, then doing so is going to cause anxiety. It’s expected seeing as it’s illegal and taboo, to be paranoid and anxious about it. Those fears don’t affect everybody the same. I have openly smoked in public and it is liberating to where I no longer experience anxiety or paranoia related to my cannabis use.

    • smoking pot is legal here so it has nothing to do with worrying about the fuzz it just gives me horrible reactions not everybody reacts the same way to substances but as long as people are adults i could care less how much pot they smoke =)

      • Karl Héðinn Kristjánsson

Ah, good man Jeremy. I used to get seizures and get really cold sometimes when i smoked cannabis. several months later and i haven’t felt those effects in a long time. I’m starting to think that it was some kind of a healing process, mostly because my life has severely improved since I started smoking. I’m trying to suggest to you that you smoke little cannabis and see what happens. Take a small hit from a bong or better yet, vaporize. =D If you do this regularly for a couple of weeks I promise you you will enjoy it more. I don’t want you to miss out! Especially if its legal in your country! Anyway, all this is just advice. My perspective. Peace brother.

        • jeremy butler

I prefer to take sam e tablets instead as they help me and don’t have any side effects but half the people around me are stoners so i will probalby come into contact with weed at some point involuntarily anyway lol

  20. OK the last time I smoked UNLACED pot it gave me seizures and tons of them and severe panic attacks granted I might be allergic or something but to suggest that pot cures everything is simply ridiculous there are plenty of people like me out there that react horrible to this drug!

    • Christin

I suffer with Chronic Migraines and tension headaches. I pretty much live in a constant headache. It’s been pretty bad (more frequent than normal) the past 5 years or so and it makes me feel on edge all the time because I get easily irritated and annoyed (I realize it’s because I’m wore out and always in pain); that being said, I’ve suffered with headaches almost all my life. I’ve had migraines for about 16 years. Anyway, I’ve tried all the different medications; the abort meds and the preventatives.

Anti-seizure pharmaceuticals made me feel like a damn zombie; I couldn’t do basic math in my head without literally counting. One of my doctors told me one of his old nurses forgot how to tie her shoes on the same med I had been prescribed. By the way, I have a bachelors degree in Multimedia and a Graduate Degree in Instructional Technology. Obviously, zombie meds are not an option and I find it absolute hypocrisy that they can peddle these drugs but arrest people for using natural herbs that have been around for centuries. They have had PLENTY of damn time to research it. But then they go and release a chemically created synthetic drug, give it to us and tell us years later it can “potentially” casual cancer, kidney failure or some other life ending side effect.

They had me on Percocet for 5 years, it was the only thing that would work. Unfortunately it causes rebound headaches so I was having to take lower narcotic and narcotic “like” pain killers for those. And now, the FDA is cracking down on Percocet and such pain killers because the drug dealers sells those too.

WTF….I do it their way and when I finally find something that works (10 years of trying other meds and dealing with disastrous side effects); they tell me, “we have been told to cut back on prescribing pain killers, they are scrutinizing every prescription.” So basically, hey don’t consider headaches and migraines as worthy of real pain medication.

My point is, I should be able to decide for my damn SELF how to treat my pain. Those meds the doctors prescribe make things worse for me but the one option that would help, I am denied.

Why? If we would de-criminalize drugs, we would be putting those Chicago, LA, NYC Gangs out of business. They wouldn’t be able to afford ammunition let alone guns. Wake up people. They are not trying to protect us.

      • Tamra Crow

Bout fucking time someone said it!!! I salute you!!! I suffer from chronic migraines due to Tarlov Cyst Disease causing CSF buildup from cysts emptying and refilling on my spine, plus degenerative disc and protruding discs, I am losing weight for no discernible reason, yet I am told that I can’t smoke marijuana OR I cannot ave pain medications! Well, marijuana helps me eat and sleep (I am down to 103 from 160, after two months), and norco takes my pain down to a level

      • MJ4MAX

I have a one year old son with retractive seizures. He is on 5 very strong meds. He looksk like he is spinning every time i see him. I even took him to another hospital 70 miles away because they are renowned for seizure control. They stopped seizures by adding 3 additional meds. I am wondering if anyone knows how to transition from meds to CBD? I’m assuming it is an extremely slow process? Your comments would be very much appreciated. This is for Max.

        • jen

    • First question, how do you know it was unlaced? did you grow it organically yourself, or know personally who grew it organically. Are you really sure you did not get it from someone who used chemicles of some sort on the plant at all. You see this is why Medical cannabis needs to be grown properly, and not by some dodgy dealer who doesn’t know what they are doing.
Second questiopn and point, did you not know the benefit is not from the THC, but the CBD. Once heated/smoked the CBD is converted to THC, and only a very small amount of CBD remains. So smoking it will get you stoned due to the THC.
A tincutre made with raw organic product will not contain THC, you will not smoke it, but swallow the liquid medicine, and you will not be stoned.
Some more research may be in order for you to understand what exactly in the marijuana is controlling seizure activity. Good luck with everything.

    • Butch

      Jeremy,
When you say “plenty” of people, I would bet to say that number is microscopic compared to the side effect of pharmaceuticals. I’ve met one person in my near 60 years of life that had a bad reaction to marijuana. That was my father. He took it orally and probably ate to much. He had no seizures, but just felt “Crappy”. I don’t think anyone here or anywhere else is saying pot cures “Everything” But we are finding out more and more benefits of its use. And more and more of the horrible “Refer Madness” type propaganda to be false. At the very least you must agree that it should be legal. As legal as Milk Thistle, and let the people decide if it works for them or not

      • It wouldnt phase me in the slightest if they legalized it but for me personally I will NEVER EVER touch the stuff it is far from harmless in my book that being said if it works for you by all means have at it =)

    • DeeKay

Jeremy…that’s because you smoked street marijuana that is bred to have a high THC content for the psychoactive effect. People with seizures should never use high THC pot as it can aggravate epilepsy. The marijuana used for seizures is bred to have almost NO THC and is very high in CBD…it’s the CBD that stops seizure activity. You need medical grade.

    • mimi weed

#1 it is an herb/plant not a drug. #2 this article does not say it cures everything. #3 cannabis is not for everyone, but for those it helps they should be able to utilize it. #4 i went from 3-5 grandmal seizures a month to ZERO, so i know it works for me.

      • Khorshid

        Dear mimi,
my mother is suffering of 5 or sometimes even more grand mal seizures a month and is taking a chemical anticonvulsant drug named keppra for decades. I would love to help her to get rid of keppra and be able to use a natural anticonvulsant such as marijuana. To this day I could not find anything that would help her. So this article and also your post really makes me hopeful. Could you give me some information on your daily dosis and also where to get proper marijuana? we live in germany. thank you very much!

    • jchase420

what ever you where smoking it was not pot

    • Iris Tarragoni

Smoking it is not a medical way to take cannabis! Can you immagine smoking any other medecine? Combustion destroys and alters the chemical components. But mabe you are one of the few who are allergic and will never be able of healing on cannabis, is it a reason to deny all healings to others? You say :”react horrible to this drug”, who knows, is it physical and you are allergic, or are you so persuaded that this is a so very-strong-harmful-hard-drug that it feels horrible? Or is it that strain you smoked? Or pollutants that were added by bad sellers? Who are you to say “but to suggest that pot cures everything is simply ridiculous”. Cannabis has been often prooved to be a very efficient way to get rid of health concerns, if prepared and used correctly. Knowledge is hidden by illegality and shut down by authorities. That doesn’t mean it is not true! Peace

    • Petter

1/10 of persons does take damage of the marijuana, 9/10 dont take any negative effect.

    • djtoonz

1st time smokers have low resistance, it takes a couple times to mellow out the effects….once your body has built a resistance you will manage better…..My first times were bad for me as well….I even threw up and had diziness…but now everything is ok =)….its circumstances like this that make ppl think its so bad but..the truth is most 1st time users are Light Weight! so don’t over due it.

    • yup, because pot is full of thc, not cbd. cbd has been bred out of it, and those of us who would benefit from cbd react terribly to the thc.
