What exactly is going on in Fukushima? There seems to be little media attention surrounding the subject as many alternative media outlets claim something serious is happening that we should all be wary of. Let’s have a look at what both sides are saying.
We posted a story earlier this year about the state of nuclear fallout as it relates to oceans and landmass around the world. From our research we found that the damage the Fukushima accident is causing seems to be understated by the media and certain major world authorities. According to research, at the time of the story, anywhere from 300 to possibly over 450 tons of contaminated water that contains radioactive iodine, cesium, and strontium-89 and 90, was flooding into the Pacific Ocean from the Fukushima Daichi site every day. If this is compared to the Hiroshima and Nagasaki nuclear bombings in 1945, Japanese experts estimate Fukushima’s fallout at 20-30 times as high.
According to the World Health Organization, much of the world doesn’t have anything to worry about as levels of radiation are not reaching these areas in mass doses. In fact, according to WHO, unless you are in Fukushima or on the border of Japan, your organ radiation exposure dose per year is about the equivalent of one dental x-ray per year. It is important to note that WHO’s numbers are early estimations and are not exact. However it is clear they feel that the world outside of Japan is in the clear when it comes to radiation.
Back to the other side of the coin, it has been found that Alaskan seals and walruses are dying and showing up with odd illnesses in which the cause is still unknown. The NOAA declared the recent deaths of ringed seals in the Arctic and Bering Strait regions of Alaska were an unusual mortality event. This triggered an expert investigation into the cause.
Both seals and walruses were found to be suffering from skin sores and patchy hair loss. In 2011, necropsies and laboratory tests found skin lesions, fluid in the lungs, white spots on the liver, and abnormal growths in the brain. Some seals and walruses also had undersized lymph nodes. Many of these symptoms could be explained by radiation exposure but this has not been determined yet as tests are still ongoing as to whether or not radiation is the cause.
What does both sides of the research suggest? We don’t know the true scope of this disaster quite yet as both sides contain estimation and speculation. Considering there seems to be a bit of a media blackout surrounding the issue, it is tough to have all research consolidated and fairly presented. There are clearly political bias’ and strategies seen through much of the research being done by major entities.
This is personally while I value independent research so much. As always, please do your own research into this matter and others, alternative media sources are very valuable and will provide a much more complete story than mainstream ons will. Look at multiple sources. A great one to follow for Fukushima: http://fukushima-diary.com/
