Oil spills are constantly occurring all over the planet, massive ones at that, many of which we do not hear about through the media. The deep water horizon spill in the Gulf of Mexico on the other hand was so large that there was absolutely no hope of the petroleum giants keeping it out of the public eye (as they constantly do with other spills).
Pictures of it were even taken from space satellites, all of which determined it as one of the biggest environmental disasters in the history of the human race. It can easily be put in the same category as the recent nuclear disaster in Fukishima, Japan.
These were two -among many more -wake up calls for the human race to change its ways if we are to move forward and thrive. It’s an opportunity for more of us to become aware that advanced solutions do exist, and it’s becoming clear to more and more people that we do not need to use these resources (oil/nuclear power) in order to generate energy. There are better, more advanced ways that this could be done. We are destroying our planet, and have been doing so for years.
A couple of weeks ago, a federal judge ruled that British Petroleum (BP) was liable for gross negligence, as well as extreme and reckless behavior. As a result, BP is facing up to $4,300 for each barrel of crude spilled in the incident. They face up to $18 billion of penalties under the clean water act.
According to the Wall Street Journal:
“A 153-page ruling describes repeated instances in which BP took measures to cut costs despite safety risks. Some of these decisions “evince an extreme deviation from the standard of care and a conscious disregard of known risks,” wrote Judge Barbier, who is based in New Orleans. (source)
His decision is among the biggest legal setbacks for BP in four years of litigation over the Deepwater Horizon explosion, which killed 11 crew members and left oil leaking into the Gulf for months, killing wildlife and fouling beaches. Though the initial cleanup is over, scientists continue to monitor the Gulf for aftereffects from the spill. The Coast Guard said crude still occasionally washes ashore from Louisiana to Florida.” (source)
This however, is not about money. Who cares about money? BP has trillions of dollars meaning that money is nothing to them. This should set off red flags that it’s time to end our use of oil, and put a stop to these petroleum giants forever. It’s not needed, yet the US government continues to have us believe that we do not yet have the technologies to replace it, which is a complete lie.
This leads me to my next point. BP has spent a large amount of time using corporate media (which they own) to convince everybody that the problem was solved, the oil was cleaned up and there is nothing to worry about. This couldn’t be farther from the truth. I remember when the BP spill happened, there was no media coverage allowed and the area was a no fly zone. A few mysterious and unrecognized deaths also occurred.
Below is a video of Abby Martin from RT news as she speaks with investigative journalist Greg Palast in a very informative interview discussing the most recent penalties against BP, and aspects of the company’s criminality that have been largely overlooked by the rest of the media, including a massive oil spill cover-up in the Caspian Sea.
Greg Palast is a New York Times best selling author, and a freelance journalist for the BBC and The Guardian, a British newspaper. He has been investigating BP for decades, and here’s what he had to say about the matter:
There Are Better Ways
The worlds largest private bank, UBS, is urging investors to join the clean, renewable energy movement. Analysts at the bank say that power plants in Europe might be extinct within the next 10 to 20 years. You can read more about that here.
There is enough empty space in the deserts of the world to provide power for the entire planet. A team at IBM recently developed what they call a High Concentration Photo Voltaic Thermal (HCPVT) system that is capable of concentrating the power of 2,000 suns, they are even claiming to be able to concentrate energy safely up to 5,000 times.
According to Greenpeace, this technology can establish itself as the third largest player in the sustainable power generation industry. A study published in 2009 predicted that solar power could supply all the world’s energy needs, with minimal space. Greenpeace estimates that it would take only two percent of the Sahara Desert’s land area to supply the entire planet’s electricity needs. You can read more about that here.
“I’ve been taken out on aircraft carriers by the Navy and shown what it is we have to replace if we have new energy sources to provide new fuel methods. These are not just fringe scientists with science fiction ideas. They are mainstream ideas being published in mainstream physics journals and being taken seriously by mainstream military and NASA type funders. Back in about 1984 a researcher at hushes laboratory by the name of Robert L. Forward showed that there was a particular effect, called the Casimir Effect, which demonstrated that this energy could be tapped.” – Dr. Puthoff
