The Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) is conducting a survey on experiences people have during their meditation practice. This is a great chance to share your experience with IONS so that we move meditation research forward.
The benefits of meditation have become very evident in the past decade as more and more research becomes available. For example, A group of Harvard neuroscientists came together to study the benefits of meditation on the brain and how it affects mindfulness. Sara Lazar enrolled her team of 16 subjects in a 8 week mindfulness program to see if meditation, over a short period of time, could begin to create changes in lifestyle and the brain. Their conclusions were very interesting:
“This study demonstrates that changes in brain structure may underlie some of these reported improvements and that people are not just feeling better because they are spending time relaxing.” Sarah Lazar Ph.D., the study’s senior author.
Help With Meditation Research
If you practice meditation or have meditated in the past, IONS is asking you to please fill out the survey below. It is completely anonymous, with the only prerequisite being meditation experience.
This survey asks about experiences you may have had during or related to meditation practice. The majority of questions are multiple choice and address the frequency, quality or intensity of experiences you have had during meditation. The survey takes about 10 to 20 minutes to complete depending on the number of experiences you have had and the depth of further information you provide.
IONS will use your responses on this survey as the first step in developing an expanded set of concepts to be measured in meditation research. IONS wants to find out how often people report having these experiences as a part of their meditation practice.
