It’s May 23rd and millions of people across the planet are gathering (again) to voice their desire to no longer have a corporation like Monsanto in control of the entire global food supply. It’s become known as the “March Against Monsanto” and it’s become so large over the years that it has gained the attention of the mainstream media, who continually present this topic as if it is debatable. They seem to do this despite the fact that the information and science clearly point to one thing – that GMOs should in no way be approved completely safe for human consumption. A large majority of nations feel the same way, having imposed bans or severe restrictions of GM food products citing health and environmental concerns. Russia is a great recent example, but there several dozen great examples.
It’s quite a remarkable time to be alive right now, because millions of people around the globe are starting to look at what has been taking place on our planet and as a result, they’re coming together in an effort to change it. This has been happening with regards to multiple topics that include police brutality, government secrecy, war, water fluoridation, vaccinations, and various other “controversial” topics where information continues to come out into the public domain. One of the best examples showing that yes, we can make big changes on our planet is the growing global resistance against big biotech corporations like Monsanto. They manufacture Genetically Modified Food(GM) and the world’s most widely used pesticides – including the ones that are commonly sprayed on our food. Despite the fact that studies have outlined various dangers associated with these pesticides, and pesticide accumulation in the human body is dramatically reduced when eating organic (see studies here), they are still approved completely safe for consumption, and the same goes for GMOs.
“As part of the process, they portrayed the various concerns as merely the ignorant opinions of misinformed individuals – and derided them as not only unscientific, but anti-science. They then set to work to convince the public and government officials, through the dissemination of false information, that there was an overwhelming expert consensus, based on solid evidence, that GMOs were safe.” (source)
A tremendous amount of literature, documentation and published research clearly indicate why genetically modified food should not be deemed completely safe for human consumption. For example, here is more information regarding a paper that linked GMOs to cancer as well as severe liver/kidney damage. What is considered to be one of the world’s most credible medical journals recently published a paper outlining the cancer link between glyphosate and humans. You can read more about that story here. This is exactly why GMOs have some geneticists like David Suzuki say that humans have “become part of a massive genetic experiment.”
“It is commonly believed that Roundup is among the safest pesticides… Despite its reputation, Roundup was by far the most toxic among the herbicides and insecticides tested. This inconsistency between scientific fact and industrial claim may be attributed to huge economic interests, which have been found to falsify health risk assessments and delay health policy decisions.” – R. Mesnage et al., Biomed Research International, Volume 2014 (2014) article ID 179691. You can read more about this phenomenon here.
It’s not hard to understand why so many people are protesting the food that’s banned in over 60 other countries worldwide. There is a reason that GMOs and the pesticides that go with them are rapidly loosing popularity. Again, multiple countries are banning them citing links to deadly diseases, environmental consideration and more. If you do the research, it’s not hard to find. Here are some related CE articles that are well sourced to get you started.
The resistance against GMOs, and the push for GMO labelling as well as transparency of scientific data really goes to show what we can do as a human race if we come together and demand change. Once we become aware of something to the point where the majority of us say “yes, this is wrong,” change will indeed take place.
In this new film called Prosperity, you can learn the ways in which companies are changing the game in order to change our world. CE's founder Joe Martino is in this film talking about CE's business practices.
