If change were convenient, everyone would change their lives. There would be no unhappiness and everyone would be living the life of their dreams. Unfortunately, change doesn’t work that way. It’s often intimidating or downright frightening.

The reason why change is so tough is because it requires us to shift out of our of our vibrational “comfort zone.” This is the spot that we’ve settled into. You’ll know that your “vibrational comfort zone” is a positive one if you’re happy with your life. If you wake up excited to start the day and go to sleep feeling completely fulfilled. If you’re one of these people then this article isn’t for you.

If you don’t wake up positively thrilled to live your life, then that means your comfort zone needs to be shaken up. The only way to do this is to figure out what change you’d like to see in your life and come up with one or two steps that you could take to get you close to that goal.

That’s it.

Simple, but not convenient.

If something was convenient for you that means it’s within your comfort zone, and if an action is comfortable, then you’re not going to create new results.

There’s no shortage of people on this planet that want to create change. But too many of us are under the impression that there will be a way to make positive change without actually changing anything in their life.

It sounds silly when you read it, but think about it. How many times have you thought, “I’d love to quit my day job and travel around the world one day” or “I’d love to write a book someday,” or envisioned some other wonderful scenario? The fact is that you will never wake up and say, “Today is the perfect day to quit my job!” or “I don’t have anything else to do right now, I’m going to sit down and write that book.”

The extra time doesn’t come to you, you create the time. The extra energy it takes to go to the gym isn’t going to magically fall in your lap. It takes responsibility and a profound willingness to change to actually get up and create the life you desire.

That’s why there are so many people who settle into their unfulfilling lives. Settling is easy street! It takes no effort to stay the same. It takes three things to make change:

1. Vision

Get a clear image in your head of what you’d like to create. Paint a picture in your mind with great detail. Feel what it would be like to accomplish this goal. A word of caution here, feel free to “shoot for the stars” when you’re envisioning the life you want to create but remember that the bigger the dream, the more changes you will need to create to get there. Imagine it as a map. You’re at “A” and “B” is around the block from you. This takes much less effort to get to than if it were 3,000 miles away.

For those who are not accustomed to creating big change in their lives, or who tend to self sabotage, create a smaller more realistic goal for yourself. This way you’ll build your self esteem and will eventually become more skilled are creating bigger changes in a shorter period of time.

2. Flexibility (Not literally)

Be prepared to shift you schedule, your mental attitude, and your behavioural patterns, to let go of emotional blocks. The more rigid you are, the less willing you are to adapt to the changes that you’ll need to make. Be open minded. Let go of the need to have predictability in your life (for a brief time) while you shake your routine up.

3. Commitment

I promise, you will go through a whole bunch of stuff while you create this change. Family members and friends may try to deter you, you’ll come up with a million excuses to not go through with it, you might get sick (this happened to me EVERY time I tried to make a big shift in my life until I realized this was my resistance kicking in), the gym might close down for a year (also happened to me), you’ll have your boss give you extra work so it makes it almost impossible to have the time to go through with the change you’re trying to make.
These are examples of self-sabotage.

This WILL happen in one form or another. So be prepared for it and when it happens remember this article. Remember that self-sabotage is there because an aspect of you is afraid to change. Sometimes it will even seem like the entire universe is trying to get you to stay the same. It’s not the universe, it’s you! Stay strong. Commit to your change. It’s only fear in your way. So long as your passion outweighs your fear, you will stay on course.

Making positive changes in your life is an incredibly rewarding experience. There is always something that you’ll learn from every change you make. Be prepared to expand, to have your environment and mental and emotional attitude shift, and for a whole bunch of new results to come your way. The power to change your reality is in your hands. Take it and create the life you desire.
