Today, many people have trouble sleeping. Whether they have trouble falling asleep in the first place or are waking up multiple times in the night, sleep deprivation in general is becoming endemic to Western society. Indeed, it has been estimated to be the second most common medical complaint around the Western world. Whatever factors are at play here, from spending too much time watching TV or browsing on our smartphones, to not being able to calm the mind from the worries of the day, we need to get a more restful sleep. Another common reason why we may be waking up during the night is because of elevated levels of stress hormones.

Recipe For A Super Simple Sleep-Aid Remedy
- 5 Teaspoons Raw, Organic, Unpasteurized Honey
- 1 Teaspoon Himalayan Pink Salt
Combine ingredients and store in a little airtight jar (it will not go bad).
You can make as much or as little as you want, just stick to a 5:1 ratio of honey to salt. Put a little dab under your tongue before you go to bed and keep a little on your bedside table in case you wake up during the middle of the night.
Why Does This Work?
Independent Health Researcher Matt Stone had the following to say in his book, Eat For Heat:
The salt and sugar mixture is an absolute must for nighttime stress events. For wakeups between 2-4 am, accompanied by a feeling of excess adrenaline circulating through your system (adrenaline peaks at this time), salt and sugar under the tongue is the only way to go. You don’t want to be chewing anything, wandering around the house looking for food, opening the fridge and looking at bright lights when hoping to fall back asleep, and so forth. You want to remain as unstimulated as possible. Keep the sugar/salt mixture by the bedside for easy and thoughtless access until you stop having middle-of-the-night wake-ups.
A study here shows that honey, when given to adults and children with colds, was better than no treatment at contributing to a restful night’s sleep. Himalayan pink salt does contain small amounts of magnesium, which is also known to aid in restful sleep.
While I entirely understand this may sound too good to be true, after trying it or a few nights I have to say that, at least for me personally, it has worked very well. It is so simple, and so easy to make with ingredients you likely already have on hand. What have you got to lose?
