Growing up, video games played a big role in my life at times, as they were often the go to source of entertainment. Whether I was spending time with friends or unwinding on my own, there was little “fun time” spent -aside from playing sports outside -without a Nintendo or Sony controller in my hand. And for good reason, as there is no denying that for many of us video games can be incredibly fun to play.
I still remember to this day how immersed I became in games such as Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time and the Metal Gear Solid franchise -all of which managed to preoccupy countless hours of my childhood and teenage years. To this day I still on occasion play video games and in the right environment and/or mood can have a lot of fun doing so.
With video game console capabilities consistently improving I found myself curious to explore just how big of a role video games play in our modern society and whether or not they are having any lasting effects on those who play them.
Video Games By The Numbers
According to a dossier released by statista in September of this year global video game revenues exceed $100 billion US, with $6.1 billion of that being generated by video game sales in the United States alone.(1) These already staggering numbers become even more surprising when one takes into consideration the state of the US economy. How much of that $100 billion is being spent by families and individuals who cannot comfortably afford to buy that $59.99 game or that $349.99 console?
In terms of time -arguably our most precious resource -in 2013 the average US gamer over the age of 13 spent 6.3 hours a week playing video games -which is up from an average of 5.6 hours spent in 2012.(2)
What Type Of Games Are We Playing The Most?
Violence, in some way shape or form has been a predominant theme in the world of video games for quite sometime. The numbers support that conclusion with the action and shooter genres accounting for a combined 51.9% of video game sales in the US in 2013.(3) Even if masked under the intentions of playing a hero whose sole purpose is to destroy a series of “enemies” to save the world, violence is violence and we seem to love to engage in it virtually.
The top 5 selling games in the UK in 2013 are further proof that this trend is global, with 4 of the top 5 being from the action and/or shooter genre.(4) Atop that list is the latest instalment from the ever-popular Grand Theft Auto series a franchise synonymous for gratuitous violence, sexuality and mature themes -as evidenced by its M for Mature rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB).
“Currently there are more than half a billion people worldwide playing computer and video games at least an hour a day — and 183 million in the US alone.” – Jane McGonigal, Game Designer & Author
So, with so much violence being engaged in virtually by so many of us worldwide is it having an effect on us? And more importantly is it desensitizing us to these mature themes? There seems to be two opposing points of view.
View #1: Violent Video Games Reduce Brain Response To Violence
A 2011 study out of the University of Missouri-Columbia looked at the long recognized belief held by many scientists that playing violent video games can cause players to become more aggressive in their daily life. The study involved 70 young adult participants who were randomly assigned to play a violent or non-violent video game for 25 minutes. The researchers then measured brain responses as they showed the participants a series of neutral and violent photos. The final stage allowed the participants to compete against an opponent in a controllable task that allowed them to choose how aggressively they would blast their opponent with sound. Researchers found that those who played a violent video game were more aggressive in their blast by comparison to those who played a non-violent game.(5)
Another study in the publication Social Psychological and Personality Science, found that aggression triggered by video games can last for up to 24 hours after the game is played -if the player continues to think about the game.(6) Thinking back on my own video game experiences I can often recall times where the game lingered within my mind long after I had put the controller down, making this study personally quite interesting for me to read about. The authors of the study noted that violent gamers often play for a lot longer than the 20 minutes they were allotted in this particular study, making it more likely that they let thoughts of it ruminate within their mind habitually.
View #2: No Causal Link Between Video Games & Violent Behaviour
Several authorities, including the US Supreme Court, the US Surgeon General, the Federal Trade Commission and Federal Communications Commission all stand on the side of there being no causal link between violent video games and violent behaviour. Any theories to the contrary they state are a myth, and in response have compiled a list of research to support this stance.(7)
They do advise however that individuals -especially parents -make informed decisions about what they do and do not choose to expose themselves to. Each game is subject to a rating and suggested age range, and all major gaming systems are required to have programmable parental controls.
How To Decide For Yourself
As with so many other things in the world these days I’m finding that the best solution always lies within. When deciding whether or not to expose yourself to violent video games, observe how you feel when you play them. Are they purely an entertaining experience that you are easily able to disconnect from? Or are they an escape that allows you to release frustrations, feelings and emotions?
I’d also advise to look within when deciding whether or not play video games at all. Observe your behavioural patterns to see whether you are simply engaging in an available form of entertainment or if it has become a habitual decision. Be sure to be honest with yourself when analyzing this as well, as you won’t be doing anyone a favour by masking how playing as much as you do makes you feel.
I personally do not think that video games are inherently good or bad. They aren’t for everyone, and there is a time and place for them for those who enjoy them. It’s up to us to decipher just how much and when that is, if at all.
Apple Will Start Tracking Your Calls & Emails To Assign You A ‘Trust Score’
- The Facts:
Apple iPhone users will now have their data on phones calls, texts and emails track by Apple so they can be given a 'trust score.' They claim this data collection will help prevent fraud.
- Reflect On:
Is this not just behavioural and user data collection disguised as 'trying to protect you?' Is this data going to be used to sell you more products? Or maybe sold to other companies? Do we have ANY reason to trust Apple?
We live on a great planet, and there are a lot of incredible people here. Let’s not forget that. At the same time, there are some serious concerns that are rising and need to be brought to light regarding the people that basically control our planet, this powerful conglomerate that sit atop the financial pyramid control everything, including politics. This group is often called the Deep State or cabal.
This is something that can be seen given many examples, one basic example is the power that corporate America has on government and how decisions are really made. It’s not the people deciding what happens, and what happens is hardly even ever disclosed to the public, and if it is, it’s hardly done so in a truthful manner.
We’re living in an age of mass surveillance and data connection, one which the global elite claims is for our own protection in the “fight against terrorism,” a fight and a war that’s been based on lies and completely fabricated, as emphasized, shown and explained by many politicians, academicians and researchers around the world. It’s an important narrative to share, given the fact that it’s one mainstream media refuses to touch.
If the reasons for mass surveillance are not actually for our own safety, and truly for ‘national security’ reasons, then what is it for? Why are they doing it, and why are they doing it in such a secretive, sneaky, and powerful manner?
“At least 80% of fibre optic cables globally go via the US, this is no accident and allows the US to view all communication coming in. At least 80% of all audio calls, not just metadata, are recorded and stored in the US. The NSA lies about what it stores. The ultimate goal of the NSA is total population control.” – William Binney, a former high ranking intelligence official with the National Security Agency (NSA). He is one of the highest placed intelligence officials to ever blow the whistle
Bribery is also used, multiple politicians have explained how ‘men in dark suits,’ perhaps representatives of the Deep State that runs corporate America, and imposes its will on a global scale. When a president is elected into office, if they are elected, and not “selected” as Rosevelt once said, then they are most likely confronted with every piece of dirt that the Deep State has on them.
There are many things to consider, but ultimately, the agenda of those who control global politics remains intact no matter who is president, and those that become president are usually just puppets and ‘partners’ with this powerful group of international people.
All of this is important to mention whenever it comes to any type of surveillance or data collection activity. At lower levels of the spectrum, it’s also being used for profit, and our data, online habits, phone conversations and more are collected and sold to various corporations. There are even corporations teaming up with pharmaceutical companies to sell data related to your DNA. You can read more about that here.
We all know about data collection and Facebook, and other social media platforms…
Apple’s New Policy
To help identify and prevent fraud, information about how you use your device, including the approximate number of phone calls or emails you send and receive, will be used to compute a device trust score when you attempt a purchase. The submissions are designed so Apple cannot learn the real values on your device. The scores are stored for a fixed time on our servers.
All we get from these corporations are justifications for taking such action, and we buy into it. At the end of the day, we have a choice, and we can choose to support these products, or opt out for some better options.
The explanation seems too vague, how does knowing how many phone calls or emails one sends combat fraud? Is this just a complete lie for something else that’s really going on? The truth is, transparency in our world, especially our corporate world, has gone completely fell down the drain. Big corporations have become a political tool. Take a look at Facebook, which basically became a tool of the intelligence agencies, and agencies like DARPA used to collect massive amounts of data and spy on people.
Now, it’s being used as a tool to censor information and shut down a narrative that doesn’t agree with ‘them.
Facebook also convinced users and businesses to bring all of their people and practices over to Facebook to create a community, only to see that community ripped out from under them as Facebook essentially said “You can’t reach your community anymore, pay us to reach them.” Yet Facebook profited billions off the data of your people. Good old bait and switch.
Are these corporations acting in a way that protects us? Or are we simply customers that represent billions in profit? Why do we continue to support corporations that these companies and what they do if we have other options? While we don’t yet know what this new data collection will be used for, can we not learn from the recent Facebook data scandals?
Weekly Q&A: Trump’s Role, Censorship, CETV, Reader Love
- The Facts:
Each week we do a Q&A based on questions we receive throughout the week. Our goal is to dive DEEPER into content through the questions. This video covers a few questions from Sept 16 - Sept 22, 2018.
- Reflect On:
If you have any questions for us, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
We have decided to begin doing weekly public Q&A’s based on all the questions we get throughout the week. We have found that people often ask very similar questions (and great questions!) about what’s going on and often times we feel these responses are great for everyone to be hearing as it adds a deeper perspective to what we cover each week. your questions often get us thinking down different paths too, which is awesome and why this community is so damn powerful.
So THANK YOU for your great questions, for engaging and for being part of this all.
I want to also say, for those wanting to get our weekly behind the scenes updates as well as our daily content sent right to your inbox, click here. We know facebook simply does not work anymore for distributing content, so email is the best way.

“The Consistency Is Mind Boggling” – University Professor On Alien Abductions
- The Facts:
Dr. David M Jacobs, a recently retired Professor and historian, shares the fact that those who claim to have been abducted, and there are millions, share extreme consistency with their stories, and come back with proof.
- Reflect On:
Why is this not addressed? As Jacob's points out, if it's not true, then we have the greatest discovery of all time with regards to neurology.
We know that the phenomenon is very, very widespread around the world. People think that this is an American phenomenon, it is not. I’ve worked with people from Africa, and Asia, and Latin-America, and Europe and so forth… All say the same thing all around the world, it does not matter where they’re from. People often ask me whether there’s any consistency in abduction accounts, the consistency is mind-boggling.
The quote above comes from Dr. David M. Jacobs, a recently retired professor of History at Temple University, from the video below. He’s one of many academics who’ve been studying the ‘alien abduction’ phenomenon for a long time. We’re talking about full-out investigations and actual case work. Himself and practically every other researcher in this field would tell you that yes, the consistency is indeed jaw-dropping. People who claim to have been abducted by intelligent extraterrestrials, or come in contact with beings, and there are millions of them all over the world, all share remarkably consistent stories.
I work with people who have MD’s, or psychiatrists, psychologists… people who are university professors, and people who have never been able to hold a job…and everybody in-between. The vast material that they talk about has never been in the public domain, without consistency there is no phenomenon, and it is the consistency that keeps coming back…People are physically missing from their normal environments when they are abducted, people come back with unusual scars on their body, fully formed scars that weren’t there before.
It’s important to make a distinction here. There are all sorts of contacts happening. There are forced abductions, we call these people abductees, then there are simply contactees. Contactees don’t experience any type of forced abduction or strange procedures that are performed on them like abductees, there is also a wealth of data showing that a lot of people have friendly, informative, and mysterious type of contact experiences as well, and there are a range of beings (which also show up with consistency in multiple experiencer accounts) that have also been reported with consistency, including human looking ones. Along with these experiences come telepathic messages, in many cases appear to warn of future destruction unless human rapidly evolves and, grows up, so to speak.
Many abductees also report a sense of remorse and empathy within some of these forced abductions, others do not.
Here’s a great example, a case that involves more than 60 school children in Zimbabwe.
Dr. Jacobs goes on to state, regarding abductions, a very interesting point
Now, let us suppose it is not happening, all those things still remain, and yet it’s not happening, there is no such thing as the abduction phenomenon. If that is the case, we have found the most important thing ever in the history of neurology, brain function, cognition… All these people are saying the same thing at their risk, this is not going to bring applause to them, that they say they’ve been abducted by aliens from outer space. High functioning people say thisnknowing full well it could destroy their careers, and they say this around the world…And it’s not happening, then what?
The mainstream world has and is currently addressing the UFO topic, but the talk of extraterrestrial visitation as one possible explanation for some of these UFO visitations has still been left out of the equation. For the latest updates on that, you can refer to this article:
All of these people, again, are not crazy. They are normal human beings, many of them who have or had no interest in the phenomenon prior. So, again, either something very important in the history of mental health is going on, or the exact opposite, and if we actually take time to examine the evidence, the answer becomes quite clear.
Some of what people report as UFOs are extraterrestrial (ET) vehicles. Some of those extraterrestrial vehicles actually have ET crews, and some of those ET crews catch and release humans.” — Dr. Don Donderi, a retired McGill University Professor of 40 years in the Department of Psychology (source)
Below is a brief account of one example that pertains to abductions, again, something different from regular contactee experience as mentioned earlier in the article. There is footage of Dr. Jacobs here as well.
Are We Being Prepared For Contact?
Behind the scenes, high-ranking Air Force officers are soberly concerned about the UFOs. But through official secrecy and ridicule, many citizens are led to believe the unknown flying objects are nonsense. To hide the facts, the Air Force has silenced its personnel – Roscoe Hiellenkoetter (source)
Now, with the emergence of mainstream UFO disclosure, although not really addressing the extraterrestrial question, these topics are slowly creeping into the mainstream. It appears that the process of ridicule which existed for so long, via mainstream media, movies, popular television shows and more, seems to have turned into a process of disclosure.
The topic touches all areas of humanity, including metaphysics, spirituality, not just science, technology and questions in those areas. It represents an evolution in all areas, most importantly an evolution in consciousness. It really forces us to question ourselves, and help us understand who we really are as well.
Humanity is at a crossroads, and our hesitance to accept certain realities these days is drifting, and acceptance is coming in. Our perception of reality is shifting, and that alone is creating action around the world to bring about something that can’t really be put into words.
Perhaps this is becoming more relevant at this because there is a message here for humanity, and the experiences of contactees and abductees could perhaps help us decipher that message if they haven’t already. The common theme is something we all internally know in our hearts, the golden rule, and the caretaking of our planet and life upon it.
We as humanity have an enormous amount of potential to create an experience where this type of existence can happen, where we can be free from the chains of economic slavery and allowed to grow and advance as a species. Our destiny is no doubt in the stars.
Recently we interviewed Susan Manewich about her research into this space as well. One of the many profound truths she shared was that of all the contactees they have studied, there is a strikingly similar message shared by all. Check it out below
